Not far away

A WALK ON THE YORKSHIRE/DERBYSHIRE BORDER.

There is some beautiful countryside around Barnsley and you do not have to venture farther afield to see some beautiful places.

Graham Snowden has kindly given me permission to use the following photos, which have been taken not far from Sheffied.

This is the back of The Sportsman,  The football pitches are also used as a take-off and landing strip for powered hang gliders ...

This is part of the old boundary wall of the Redmires WW1 army camp and WW2 prisoner-of-war camp ...

Another of the many farmsteads which dot this area ...

And up through the woods for the final leg towards the reservoirs ...

And up through the woods for the final leg towards the reservoirs ...

Almost there – this is water gushing out of an overflow ..

And a walk up the grass bank to the wall of the ‘bottom’ reservoir ...

On the way back, a distant view (through the telephoto lens) of Eggborough Power Station, approximately 35 miles to the north east. We are 1,000 feet above sea level, and on a good day from a particular vantage point we can see Ferrybridge, Eggborough, Drax, Thorpe Marsh, West Burton, Cottam and High Marnham power stations in a view stretching from the Aire to the Trent ...
